Honorary doctorate

An honorary doctorate for Prof. Dr. Hans J. Vermeer

On 23 November 2009, the members of the Faculty Board at FTSK (School of Translation and Interpreting Studies, Linguistics and Cultural Studies of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz) in Germersheim voted in favour of granting an honorary doctorate to Prof. Dr. Hans J. Vermeer for his dedication to the establishment of a discipline in Translation Studies. The honorary doctorate was awarded in a small ceremony in Heidelberg on 17 January 2010.

The laudation was delivered by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Andreas F. Kelletat. A few words of thanks were also spoken by Jun. Prof. Dr. Dilek Dizdar on behalf of Hans Vermeer’s students and by Prof. Dr. Heidemarie Salevsky (Berlin) who worked with Hans Vermeer over many years.
